Matt's Birthday...

Matt turned 14 a week ago. It's official - our world will never be the same. This Saturday is his first Stake Dance. I'd like to be a fly on the wall to watch him dance. To see if he will. Check out his moves. I offered to show him some of MINE, but he just laughs like I'm so retarded, and there's NO WAY his mother is going to show him how to dance! For the love!

We don't do many friend-parties. We (Del and I) don't like them! Friend parties are only every other year. The other half is just our family. We're terrible parents - we bribe them NOT to have friend parties. The limit for birthday gifts is $100. It is usually just one big gift of their choice. But if they forego their friend party, we'll throw in the money we would've used for the party towards their gift. So their birthday present can now be $200. That was what Matt wanted. He's been wanting an acoustical guitar to take with him on camp outs, for traveling, etc.

He went with me to pick it out, and has been teaching himself to play. We need to find lessons for him so he'll really know how to play and read music. That's next on the list. After piano lessons, and braces for Bug. Good grief - it never ends.

Matt wanted Angel Food cake with chocolate frosting. (Thanks for the recipe, Suz - you rock!)

We also have a tradition of birthday spanking - like most people do. Del holds them down, and we divide them up so everybody has a turn. Del had a REALLY hard time holding him down this year, and says he won't be able to next year. We'll BOTH have to hold him. And probably Bug. And Trav.

Del struggling to hold him on his lap. Matt's a slippery little sucker.

Aaaaaaaaa, My fourteen year old has a guitar. They can play duets around the camp fire with their little ones! :) I can see it now. I'm telling you. . . it was meant to be!

When Brandt turned 14, Doug and I showed him how to slow dance and how you never turn down a girl and if there is a girl standing alone to go ask her. All fun! Although, I think the girls need to be taught this same thing too, some girls can be downright rude! You will have to let us know how his first dance goes.

Try the orpheus academy here in Austin. There are some pretty qualified people that teach there.
